Complete core shop equipment system – from sand preparation to drying and gas treatment

Core sand preparation

Core sand can be prepared using various types of mixers. During the process, binders are added in liquid form, where the following factors are critical:

  • uniform binder distribution,
  • optimal mixture quality,
  • reduced binder consumption,
  • repeatable mixing results.

A wide range of core sand mixers is available, suitable for both cold and hot curing processes.

Sand regeneration

Regeneration of chemically bonded sands after use is highly recommended, as it allows:

  • significant reduction of material costs,
  • drastic reduction of waste volumes,
  • reduced environmental impact,
  • improved control over sand system quality.

Three regeneration processes are commonly used:

  • mechanical regeneration (most common),
  • wet regeneration,
  • wet–thermal regeneration.

Core drying

For more demanding castings, cores must be dried after coating application to ensure required mechanical properties and surface quality.

Drying options include:

  • conventional tunnel dryers (gas- or electrically heated),
  • microwave dryers – the fastest and most energy-efficient method.

Advantages of microwave drying:

  • only the material is heated, not the chamber,
  • extremely fast process,
  • no preheating of the dryer required,
  • for certain binders, material properties are even improved.

Core shop exhaust gas treatment

Modern environmental standards require effective exhaust gas treatment. In practice, two approaches are used:

  • mechanical treatment – dry or wet filtration,
  • chemical treatment – scrubbers for amines, croning, furan and other reagents.

  • chemical scrubbers for removal of specific compounds,
  • complete systems for emission reduction and compliance with environmental regulations.
